SCORE Counselor of the Year
Ben McDonald is a volunteer business counselor for the local Chapter of SCORE in Corpus Christi. Ben has been awarded the SCORE counselor of the year for his assistance in obtaining a valuable grant from the City of Corpus Christi, in addition to the time he donates to counsel local entrepreneurs. Early on in his adulthood, Ben served as a gunnery-communications officer for the United States Navy during WWII, and was awarded the Southern Cross of Honor for his service. Ben then went on to receive his Bachelors degree, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas at Austin. After completing college, Ben enjoyed a long and successful career as an attorney. During this time, Ben became very active within the community, and even served as the Mayor of Corpus Christi from 1961 to 1963. He also taught business related courses at Del Mar College and at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. In addition to his community service, Ben stayed deeply involved within the local business environment, acting as an entrepreneur himself. He joined the local Chapter of SCORE several years ago to share his vast experience with the local small business community. SCORE has made a tremendous impact in the lives of local entrepreneurs, and Ben has especially helped our community by providing small business owners with his insightful advice.
