Sue Catherman: Veteran Small Business Champion

Sue Catherman, a retired naval Lt. Commander, spent over ten years working with aspiring entrepreneurs and other transitioning military men and women during her time at Naval Station Ingleside. In her role of Transition Assistance Program Manager, she was able to bring in SBA, SBDC and VBOC as presenters for groups of enlisted men and women as they prepared to separate from the military. This was key for the promotion of entrepreneurship as a viable alternative to a job. Sue had many opportunities to encourage small business startups as she provided relocation assistance, spouse employment assistance and personal financial management direction. During her tenure at Naval Station Ingleside, she assisted individuals with starting businesses such as an online jewelry store, a sandwich shop, an embroidery operation, and a realtor office. Sue Catherman has always been a staunch supporter of veterans, and particularly those who venture into the world of entrepreneurship. That’s why she is most deserving of the award for Veteran Small Business Champion of the Year.
